What’s On My Mind
Small changes can make a big impact!
I’ve noticed something recently.
People really like our new one page map of our core training and coaching.
We gave it a major overhaul about a year ago and made some smaller changes recently.
Before we were trying to be too clever with naming our modules. We had to explain what each meant.
Now we use simple language, people get each concept right away.
Before we only had the name of a module.
Now we have a subtitle that goes a touch deeper, creating curiosity.
Before the modules only had GrowBIG Training listed.
Now we added our marquee GrowBIG Leader Training so the whole system is in one place.
We use the one-page map in almost every introductory call.
Here’s what I’ve found works over the years so you can apply the learnings:
- Get your introductory overview of what you do down to one page.
No one in the world–no one–wants you to start with a 17 page powerpoint about you.
They want one page.
You can have as much as you want to go deeper later, but one page gives someone the big picture, letting them choose what they want to dive into.
With one page, the prospective client is in control.
- Choose clear over clever.
Clear words rule. Be clever in the details, but clear in your headlines.
Better to be boring and understood than clever and not.
- Incorporate teaching into your one-pager.
I didn’t expect this, but now see it’s super important.
Your one-pager should teach.
This lets you talk about yourself and services in a way someone is receptive instead of closed.
The learning mind is open.
The “being sold to mind” is closed.
In our case, the one-pager maps out all the skills needed to be great at growth.
That in itself is sharing tons of information! Nearly 20 years of experience in one page.
I try to describe the map in ~90 seconds (fast!), then the prospective client can choose the topic most relevant to them.
That’s when the real teaching begins.
Optimize for engagement!
Here’s what I’m talking about so you can see it.

Back to you.
What do you use to first talk about your services?
A 17 page PowerPoint?
So does everyone else.
Let me guess.
Mission and values.
Expertise areas.
Client logo page.
Key team members.
Three case studies at the end.
Start with that and you’re swimming in a sea of sameness.
The prospective client isn’t in control.
They feel sold to.
They feel trapped.
Get your overview to one page.
Make it unique.
You’ll differentiate yourself.
You’ll teach instead of sell.
You’ll get more engagement.
You’ll have more fun.
And you’ll make more progress.
